Summer GardenFest 2023
Even though it was rather wet on Sunday, Summer GardenFest went ahead. We gardeners are a hardy bunch and it takes more than a little bit of rain to stop us!
Despite the weather, lots of people attended and we had many show entries by newbies. The hotly contested Victoria sandwich cake category was won by our very own Lucy. Young Dakota won the cupcakes with some beautiful little cakes. Yvonne's spectacular bouquet won the award for Beautiful Bunch of Flowers (and it was beautiful). Full results can be found on our website, along with more photos of the day.
Prizes were presented by parliamentary spokesman for Eastbourne and Willingdon, Josh Babarinde. Born and bred in Eastbourne, Josh's family used to have a plot and Josh went to Thomas a Beckett school, so probably spent many hours looking at the allotments through the fence.
Music was performed by Mick and Mel, a local duo, and Will. Sadly, due to the weather, there wasn't much scope for dancing this year.
Our 'World Famous' raffle raised £250 which will go towards the new raised beds we shall be installing at Priory Road.
Huge thanks to our amazing band of volunteers who made everything run smoothly. Without them, the show just wouldn't happen. Hats off to Carol and Adam who made their volunteering debut by bravely making teas and coffees for everyone in the rain.
